Introduction to Fundamentals:

Since the 1970's the Oakdale Gators Summer Swim Team has served as the place for an introduction to swim skills and introduction to competitive swimming. Swimmers learn the fundamentals of competition in the swimming world.  An intro to all four strokes (butterfly, back, breaststroke, and freestyle), racing starts, turns, streamlines, underwater kicking, and breath control. Swim meets are held on Saturdays beginning in May and ending in July. Although the competitive nature of swim meets can be exhilarating, we make it a key point that swim meets are not the primary focus of our summer team. Attending practice, becoming comfortable and strong in the water, learning the fundamentals of competitive swimming, and listening to coaches are key to becoming a successful swimmer in our organization. Our Gators Summer Team has multiple coaches for every ability level. We have coaches in the water for recent swim lesson graduates or swim test passers not yet ready to swim the length of the pool. We have coaches on deck for all levels of swimmer able to pass the swim test, swim across the 25-yard pool unassisted and comfortable swim in deep water. Also, have coaches for junior high and high school level swimmers looking for a team over the summer! Gators practice, while being a place to learn and improve, is also an excellent social setting for kids to make new friends while learning a new sport and life skill!
